"Wireless in my Life" covers the programmes to which Alistair listened from the 1940s onwards, from children's programmes, Gaelic song recitals, Home Service Light entertainment, Scottish humour, Scottish dance music and Sport to classical music.

A number of the topics will be illustrated by a short sound clip.

Alistair grew up on the island of Tiree and was bi-lingual, Gaelic and English before he went to Primary School. He spent his first two years at secondary school in Tiree before four years at Keil School – the boys boarding school in Dumbarton. He gained an M.A. Degree from
Glasgow University, which he represented at athletics and football, followed by teacher training at Jordanhill College. He was a champion athlete competing in light events at Highland Games all over Scotland from 1961 to 1972. He became assistant teacher at Dumbarton and Killin before becoming Headteacher of Ballachulish Primary School and similar posts at Banavie (Lochaber) and Law Primary (North Berwick).

Alistair taught Gaelic as an extra at the last four schools and conducted school choirs at National Mods. Also competed as a soloist, duettist and member of Senior choirs at the latter.
