How and why did a religious country like Scotland in 17th and 18th centuries, get involved in slavery and how did they eventually help to end it?– Kate Phillips

Kate is a member of U3A in Glasgow. In 2022 she published the book Bought and Sold, Scotland Jamaica and Slavery. Kate has been giving talks to the general public on the subject matter.

What the talk will cover:

  • How Scotland got involved in enslaving people.
  • The role of Scottish merchants in the slave trade.
  • Scots living and working on plantations. Who they were and what their lives were like.

How  Scots helped to end the slave trade and the institution of slavery.
